Rare ’57 Oldsmobile Wagon gets invitation to SEMA Show
Darrell Cimbanin is Co-Owner and President of Cimtex Rods in Jarrell, TX. They specialize in engine swaps, chassis modifications, wiring and paint jobs, as well as everyday repairs on a variety of specialty vehicles. SEMA invited Cimbanin to compete this year with a ‘57 Oldsmobile 88 Fiesta Wagon. Originally, these were 4-door, hardtop sedans, however, Oldsmobile contracted a company to modify just less than 9,000 of them into station wagons, making them very scarce.
The 6.2 L, 650 HP LT4 that lies under the hood was not an option over half a century ago, but Cimtex chose this over a period-correct J2. The small block is mated to an 8L90-E, 8-speed automatic transmission which completes the powertrain. All those ponies require some serious stopping power which is handled by 6-caliper Baer Brakes gripping 14” drilled rotors. The meaty 245x20 Michelin’s canvas the 20” Schott billet aluminum wheels.
The team wanted to keep the wagon true to its roots so they only cleaned up the exterior by massaging the fenders, updating the front and rear taillights, and reworking the rear bumper. But they did keep the dual, faux exhaust. The interior is mostly original with the addition of bucket seats and a custom center console that had to be designed around the new gearbox. The Classic Instruments gauges on the dash offer an updated yet authentic look. Cimtex Rods believes this is not your typical, run of the mill build. They hope that up close, builders and connoisseurs alike will appreciate all the details they put into this vehicle.
The SEMA Battle of the Builders competition shines the spotlight on the amazing talents and craftsmanship of builders who have already proven themselves by being a part of the premier automotive trade event in the world. It allows enthusiasts and fans a chance to learn the stories behind the builds, get to know the builders and be inspired along the way.

Trustworthy and Knowledgable...
I took my 1967 Camaro RS to Cimtex Rods for read end work. Not only did they fix up my rear end, they noticed a leak in the power steering tank that a previous shop had installed and corrected it. These guys are top-notch. Their custom builds are stunning. Every screw and bolt is polished. They do not build cars, they make works of art!.
